Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind the hit game Dead by Daylight, has officially acquired Red Hook Studios, the talented developers known for the Darkest Dungeon series. This exciting acquisition is a dream come true for the Dead by Daylight team, who have long admired Red Hook’s work.
Dead by Daylight has carved out a significant niche in the horror gaming community, celebrated for its innovative gameplay and an impressive roster of iconic horror characters. The studio has a rich history of securing licensing rights to numerous popular horror franchises, with notable additions like Chucky and Castlevania recently joining the game.
As Behaviour Interactive and the Dead by Daylight brand continue to expand, they’ve also ventured into various side projects. One such example is the Dead by Daylight spin-off, The Casting of Frank Stone, released earlier this year, developed by Supermassive Games and published by Behaviour Interactive.
On their official Twitter, Behaviour Interactive announced the acquisition of Red Hook Studios, ensuring that the studio will operate independently while continuing to produce the distinctive content that fans love from the Darkest Dungeon franchise. Known for its challenging roguelike and turn-based RPG elements infused with Lovecraftian horror, Darkest Dungeon explores the psychological toll of adventuring.
In a separate statement, Behaviour Interactive’s co-founder and CEO, Rémi Racine, expressed excitement about welcoming Red Hook Studios into the Behaviour Interactive family. The announcement also highlighted the studio's "ambitious goals" as a publisher moving forward.
The acquisition aligns with these aspirations, as both studios share a commitment to crafting intense horror experiences and are proud Canadian independent developers. While fan reactions have been mixed, both Behaviour Interactive and Red Hook Studios are enthusiastic about the new partnership.
Just before the acquisition news broke, Behaviour Interactive announced the cancellation of another spin-off, Project T. They shared on Twitter that playtesting did not yield the expected results, disappointing many fans. Despite this setback, the acquisition of Red Hook Studios brings renewed optimism for the future of Dead by Daylight and Behaviour Interactive, making it an exciting time for both studios.
