Sega has just announced that a brand-new Sonic Central livestream will take place tomorrow, September 24. Launched in 2021, these Sonic Central events celebrate all things Sonic the Hedgehog while offering fans updates on upcoming projects and events related to the iconic franchise.
It’s already been a memorable year for Sonic fans, and things are about to get even more exciting. Earlier in the year, the Knuckles TV series, featuring Idris Elba as the voice of the beloved echidna, premiered to positive reviews. The show ties into the Sonic the Hedgehog movie universe, and anticipation is high for the third film in the series, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, set for release this December. This movie will introduce Keanu Reeves as the voice of the popular villain, Shadow the Hedgehog. On the gaming side, Sonic X Shadows Generations, which combines a remastered Sonic Generations with a brand-new Shadow story campaign, is scheduled to launch in October.
Out of the blue, Sega surprised fans with news of the Sonic Central livestream, slated for September 24. This marks the fourth annual Sonic Central, offering a sneak preview of upcoming Sonic projects and events in 2025. Fans can tune in at 12 PM Eastern on Sonic’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.
Although Sega’s announcement mentions 2025, there's a strong chance we might also get another glimpse of the highly anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, set to debut later this year. Additionally, Sega may take this opportunity to remind fans of Sonic X Shadows Generations, which is releasing in just a few weeks. Beyond that, little is known about what Sega has planned for 2025. One project on the horizon is Sonic Rumble, a mobile battle royale experience expected this winter. Speculation is swirling about potential announcements, such as a second season of Knuckles, or perhaps a spinoff centered around a different character. There’s also a persistent rumor that a Sonic Heroes remake might be in the works—maybe this Sonic Central event will finally confirm it.
No matter what Sega reveals for 2025, there's already plenty to keep Sonic fans engaged this year. Sonic X Shadows Generations will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC on October 22, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, featuring Shadow, is hitting theaters on December 20. In other Sega news, RGG Studio recently unveiled Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, a spinoff starring Goro Majima, which will launch on February 28, 2025. Meanwhile, fans of Sega’s acclaimed RPG series are buzzing with rumors about Persona 6, which could arrive as early as next year.
