Bandai Namco's MMORPG Sword Art Online Variant Showdown will undergo a one-year maintenance period starting September 28th, as announced by developers in response to player complaints about technical issues. However, this shutdown is only temporary to improve the game.
The closure aims to fundamentally fix the underlying systems causing widespread bugs, rather than addressing each one individually. Developers believe taking this approach will ultimately provide a better experience for all once the game returns.
Reassuring fans, the shutdown is merely to polish the game before relaunching in Summer 2024. Player progress will carry over to the updated version, so no data will be lost during maintenance.
Devs recognize the frustration but ask for patience. When Sword Art Online Variant Showdown re-releases after a year, it will feature fully rebuilt systems, delivering a smoother experience free of the disruption that originally drove this decision.
While the wait may be long, this decision shows the team's commitment to quality. Players can rest assured their favorite game will come back stronger than before, with all issues addressed at their source for good. This temporary closure paves the way for an even better future.
