Trust, an upcoming first-person shooter (FPS) centered around vampires, is set to make its debut on Steam. Developed by Byte Barrel, the game aims to create a rich and immersive world, blending a strong 90s-inspired setting with a vibrant comic book art style. Fans of both vampire lore and classic boomer-shooters will want to keep an eye on Trust when it launches.
While many games explore the experience of living as a vampire, Byte Barrel seems intent on adding unique depth to that concept. Known for their previous work on the Forgive Me Father series, which plunged players into Lovecraftian horrors, the studio has garnered praise for its atmospheric worlds. With Trust, they’re taking that expertise and applying it to a new setting, offering players a fresh take on the vampire genre.
Byte Barrel officially announced Trust as a 90s-inspired FPS infused with immersive sim elements, all centered on a vampire protagonist. The story follows a newly awakened vampire who has been in hibernation for centuries, only to find themselves on the losing side of a war. In this dystopian world, humans have discovered that vampire blood can be harnessed as a powerful energy source, driving them to wage war against the vampire race. Players will arm themselves and join the fight, trying to shift the balance in this conflict.
True to its immersive-sim roots, Trust will offer more than just combat. Aware of a vampire’s vulnerability to sunlight, the game gives players the option to rely on stealth, using interactive objects in the environment to avoid direct confrontation. Byte Barrel promises that no two playthroughs will be the same, hinting at potential roguelike elements to enhance the gameplay. The inclusion of a dynamic day-and-night cycle adds another layer of strategy, with tasks and objectives changing based on the time of day.
Trust feels like an evolution of everything Byte Barrel has worked on in the past. Drawing from their experience in crafting Lovecraftian FPS games, the studio is bringing a fresh look to this new world with their signature hand-drawn comic book aesthetic. While an exact release date hasn't been revealed, the anticipation is already building among fans, eager to see what Byte Barrel has in store with Trust—available for wishlisting now on Steam.
