With the announcement of the final installment in the Jedi trilogy, Star Wars enthusiasts are buzzing with speculation about the fate of Cal Kestis, a character many believe is destined to meet his end. This speculation has been ongoing ever since the release of Jedi: Fallen Order.
When Respawn first revealed they were developing a Star Wars game centered around a Jedi set before the original trilogy, the central question emerged: Would Cal Kestis, the beloved ginger Jedi, survive his journey, or would he face a grim fate like many others from that era?
Cal's close calls and narrow escapes in both Fallen Order and Survivor left his future uncertain, particularly after his clash with Bode and his arrival on Tanalorr with the Mantis Crew. Now, with the announcement of a third and final game in the trilogy, fans are revisiting the discussion—and their outlook isn’t optimistic.
Yesterday, EA confirmed what many fans had anticipated: Respawn is indeed working on a new Jedi game, which will serve as the concluding chapter of Cal Kestis' story. This revelation has reignited fan theories and discussions about his ultimate fate.
As the trilogy nears its end, speculation about Cal’s survival has intensified. Many fans are convinced that Cal is doomed to die in the final game. Twitter user spinneretmj, for instance, commented on the announcement by tweeting, "He's so doomed by the narrative it's not even funny. It's so cal kestisover." Another fan highlighted that the Star Wars universe often involves character deaths and theorized that Cal might defeat and injure Vader before his own demise, potentially explaining Vader's slower pace in A New Hope.
Shadowrain10 encapsulated the sentiment perfectly: "He's a Jedi post Episode 3 who's had a close encounter with Vader; I'm pretty sure he's on borrowed time."
The slim glimmer of hope for Cal’s survival is his and the Mantis Crew’s refuge on Tanalorr, a hidden sanctuary from the Empire. The discovery of Tanalorr in Jedi: Survivor was intended to provide a safe haven for Jedi away from the Sith's reach. If this sanctuary continues to offer protection, Cal might have a chance—albeit a very slim one.
As we await the final chapter, the fate of Cal Kestis remains a topic of intense speculation and anticipation among Star Wars fans.
