New Xbox Bundle Features Delisted Sonic Game

For Xbox gamers who missed out on Sega's 2011 title, Sonic Generations, here's a chance to snag it again with the new Sonic Legacy Bundle. This release comes just in time for the highly anticipated debut of Sonic X Shadow Generations, which will combine a fresh 3D adventure starring Shadow with a remastered version of Sonic Generations.

After the closure of the Xbox 360 Marketplace in July, Sonic Generations was removed from the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S stores, leaving many Sonic fans disappointed. With the upcoming release of Sonic X Shadow Generations this October, Sega has reintroduced Sonic Generations through this bundle to reignite interest in the franchise.

The Sonic Legacy Bundle now offers Sonic Generations once again on Xbox, but only as part of a larger collection. This bundle includes backward-compatible Xbox 360 versions of:

Priced at $60, the bundle provides a substantial amount of content. However, some fans might find the price steep for a collection of games that are nearly two decades old. The value of the bundle could be further enhanced if it included other long-delisted Sonic titles from the Xbox 360 era, such as Sonic & Knuckles or the original Sonic the Hedgehog games.

While Sonic Generations being included in the Sonic Legacy Bundle is a rare instance of a previously delisted game being reintroduced, it's unlikely that Xbox will follow suit with other old or delisted titles. The bundle’s $60 price tag may decrease over time, making it a potentially better deal for those who wait.

Sonic enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to this fall and holiday season, as the 2024 Year of Shadow reaches its climax. Sonic X Shadow Generations is set to release on October 22, and fans are also eagerly awaiting Shadow’s big-screen debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, featuring Keanu Reeves, which is slated for December 20.
