Fans of the Kingdom Hearts series have recently discovered that the mobile spin-off Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road has been delisted from digital storefronts. This means players can no longer purchase or download this entry in the beloved JRPG franchise. Over the past two decades, Kingdom Hearts has expanded through numerous sequels and spin-offs across various platforms, from mainline console games to handheld titles like Birth by Sleep and 358/2 Days. Each installment pieces together the expansive narrative of Sora’s adventures across Disney worlds and the ongoing battle between light and darkness.
Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road was a notable addition, launched in 2020 for iOS and Android devices, with an offline version following a few years later. This spin-off provided a deep dive into the backstory of Xehanort, the central antagonist of the “Dark Seeker Saga,” which spans from the original game to Kingdom Hearts 3.
However, fans eager to explore this prequel adventure in its original form will be disappointed. As reported by sources like GameSpot, Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road was quietly removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store last week. There was no official statement or explanation from publisher Square Enix regarding this removal. Although the game itself is no longer available, the official website for Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road remains active for now.
The unexpected removal has left many fans disheartened, particularly because the offline version of the game removed the need for its live-service components. Additionally, the delisting raises concerns about the game’s relevance to the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4. Despite Xehanort's fate being sealed in Kingdom Hearts 3, the trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 features Strelitzia—a key character from the mobile games—meeting Sora in the enigmatic realm of Quadratum.
With Kingdom Hearts Union X Dark Road no longer available, players who missed out will not have access to Strelitzia’s backstory and its connections to the larger Kingdom Hearts timeline. Fans are now hoping for a potential remake or re-release of these mobile games, as some previous entries in the series have been revisited in the past.
