Recent speculation about the highly anticipated Illuminate faction making a return in Helldivers 2 has been swiftly debunked by Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani. Screenshots circulating online, which purportedly show the Illuminate faction on the game's map, have been dismissed as "fake news" by the developer.
The Illuminate, a race of technologically advanced aliens with psychic abilities and formidable defensive barriers, was one of the enemy factions featured in the original Helldivers. Despite their absence in the sequel, rumors and datamined information have fueled speculation about their eventual return. However, Arrowhead has not officially confirmed their reintroduction.

The controversy began when images surfaced on social media, purportedly revealing the Illuminate's symbol on the Helldivers 2 map. The images indicated that the new faction was occupying several sectors of space, including the Rictus Sector. This apparent leak sparked widespread discussion and anticipation among fans.
Arrowhead moved quickly to address the situation, removing the images from circulation. In response to the leak, Jorjani labeled it as "fake news." Further efforts to discredit the leak included an in-game message claiming that the map issue was due to "organic tissue degradation on electronic equipment" caused by a technician's unfortunate demise. This message suggested that the issue had been resolved through the replacement of electronics and a fine imposed on the technician's family.

Whether this incident is a genuine glitch or a deliberate hint at the future addition of the Illuminate remains uncertain. While many players would be thrilled to see the Illuminate make a comeback, there is no concrete evidence confirming their imminent return.
In related news, the Helldivers 2 team has acknowledged that their development path has experienced some setbacks. Despite a desire to accelerate the release of new content, the team emphasizes the importance of maintaining high quality over speed.
