In Black Myth: Wukong, taking on the Great Sage's Broken Shell can be a grueling task. However, the real challenge comes from an elusive secret boss: Erlang Shen. This formidable foe is hidden on Mount Mei and can be tricky to find and defeat. Instead of spending hours searching, use this guide to uncover the secrets of reaching and conquering Erlang Shen.
To encounter Erlang Shen, follow these steps:
1. Complete Secret Areas: Finish all secret areas in every chapter except for Chapters 3 and 6.
2. Finish the Treasure Hunter’s Quest: Complete the Treasure Hunter's Quest available in Chapter 3.
3. Defeat the Final Boss: Conquer the game's final boss to proceed.
4. Visit the Great Pagoda: Locate the Great Pagoda Keeper's Shrine. From the Snow-Veiled Trail Keeper's Shrine, head left to find a bridge. Cross it and turn left again. You'll come across a wall; interact with it to access the Great Pagoda Keeper's Shrine. Climb the stairs to trigger a cutscene that transports you to Mount Mei for the boss fight.
When engaging Erlang Shen, you'll notice an additional meter above his health bar. This represents his stance, which must be broken before you can inflict significant damage.
Key Strategies:
- Manage His Stance: Erlang Shen's stance meter must be depleted before you can effectively damage him. As his health drops to around 70%, he will replenish his stance bar and diversify his attack patterns, incorporating a large axe along with his other weapons.
- Watch for Lightning Attacks: At 50% health, Erlang Shen will begin using powerful lightning attacks, indicated by a reddish hue. These can cause a Shock status, increasing damage taken. Equip Shock-Quelling Powder to counteract this effect.
- Avoid Laser Beams: Erlang Shen may use thunder-infused laser beams that can significantly heighten your chances of getting shocked. Stay clear of these attacks.
- Dodge and Counter: Initially, dodge his first combo and then immobilize him. Use this window to deal damage and utilize the Wandering Wight’s spirit to lower his stagger gauge significantly. Continue to deplete the gauge with a mix of Light and Heavy Attacks.
For the Second Phase:
- Deal with the Clone: Once his health hits 50%, Erlang Shen will summon a clone that shoots beams. Dodge these attacks carefully.
- Trap and Attack: After the clone is eliminated, use the Plantain Fan to trap Erlang Shen in a vortex. Exploit this opportunity to destroy his stance bar and deal heavy damage. Aim to reduce his health to around 30%.
- Final Tips: During the remainder of the fight, use Rock Solid to deflect his strikes and launch counterattacks effectively.
By following these strategies, you’ll be well-equipped to defeat Erlang Shen in Black Myth: Wukong and tackle this secret boss with confidence.
