Starting with Version 5.0, acquiring Sanctifying Elixir in Genshin Impact has become essential for optimizing character builds. This new item lets players craft Artifact pieces to their liking, allowing them to choose a piece’s main stat and up to two sub-stats. This innovation significantly reduces the grind for Artifacts that players have endured since the game’s launch. Essentially, you can now create those hard-to-find Artifact pieces by using this special crafting item.
For example, if you're aiming to perfect Mualani’s build in Genshin Impact but can’t find a Goblet with Hydro DMG Bonus as the main stat and CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG as sub-stats, you can simply craft it instead of repeatedly grinding Domains with no results. However, Sanctifying Elixir is a rare item, with only a few available each patch. Moreover, different Artifact pieces require varying amounts of Sanctifying Elixir—for instance, crafting a Goblet consumes four Sanctifying Elixirs.
There are several ways to acquire Sanctifying Elixir. The most straightforward and free-to-play (F2P) method is through the Artifact Extraction process in the Artifact Transmuter Gadget, which is also used for Artifact crafting. To get one vial of Sanctifying Elixir, you need to gather 100 points of Extraction Progress. This can be done by sacrificing 5-star Artifacts that are at least level +4. Essentially, you’ll be repurposing leveled-up Artifacts that you no longer use or are willing to part with to create your ideal Artifact piece in Genshin Impact.
With the release of Version 5.0, players can obtain only one Sanctifying Elixir per patch using this method.
Another way to obtain Sanctifying Elixir is through the Battle Pass. One copy of the item is available in the Gnostic Hymn path, which requires purchasing the Battle Pass. This item is unlocked in the premium Battle Pass upon reaching level 26. Once claimed, you can use it to craft your desired Artifacts.
Additionally, in Version 5.0, you can find a few free Sanctifying Elixirs by exploring the Natlan region. While the exact number available across the map is uncertain—some may be hidden behind puzzles or secrets—these free copies offer a way to gain the valuable item without spending. It remains unclear whether more Elixirs will be available as the game progresses or if the free copies in Natlan are limited to Version 5.0.
Beyond these methods, players can also earn Sanctifying Elixirs through limited-time events. To celebrate the game’s fourth anniversary, HoYoverse is offering various rewards, including Sanctifying Elixir. Starting September 28, players will receive these items via their in-game mailbox, where they can claim them until October 8. This anniversary bundle includes one Sanctifying Elixir, along with other prizes like a pet and Primogems. It’s still uncertain whether future events will offer Sanctifying Elixir regularly or if this is a one-time bonus for the anniversary.
As mentioned earlier, crafting different types of Artifact pieces in a set requires varying amounts of Sanctifying Elixir. The more challenging pieces, usually those without fixed main stats, need more Elixirs than others, like the Flower and the Plume.
The table below outlines the amount of Sanctifying Elixir needed to craft each type of Artifact piece using the Artifact Transmuter Gadget:
Artifact Transmuter Requirements
Type of Artifact Piece | Sanctifying Elixir Copies |
Flower of Life | 1 |
Plume of Death | 1 |
Sands of Eon | 2 |
Goblet of Eonothem | 4 |
Circlet of Logos | 5 |
To create a Goblet, select the Main Affix (main stat) and two Minor Affixes (sub-stats) based on your build. This process will consume four Sanctifying Elixirs. The newly crafted Artifact will appear in your Inventory, ready to be equipped and leveled up. Note that the other two sub-stats will still be randomly assigned as you level up the Artifact, and they cannot be changed.
Unlike Artifact strongboxes, the Artifact Transmuter Gadget allows you to craft any available Artifact set, including new ones as soon as they’re added to the game. Strongboxes often take longer to include new sets and don’t cover every available set. For instance, the new Obsidian Codex Artifacts cannot be created via Strongboxes but can be crafted using the Artifact Transmuter.
The introduction of the Artifact Transmuter Gadget, powered by Sanctifying Elixirs, marks one of the most significant and welcome changes in Genshin Impact. The grind for the perfect Artifact with the ideal stats and sub-stats has been a long-standing frustration for players, who often spend extensive time running Artifact Domains without finding what they need. Although the final two sub-stats are still randomized, the new crafting system offers a better chance to achieve a competitive build, making the process more rewarding and less time-consuming.
