Dragon Age: The Veilguard promises to thrive on the strength of its companions, which explains why BioWare and Electronic Arts have dedicated an entire week to unveiling these key characters.
Starting Monday, fans have been treated to in-depth profiles of the seven companions who will join the player character, Rook, on this open-world journey: Harding, Davrin, Bellara, Taash, Lucanis, Emmrich, and Neve. Each of these characters brings unique skills and backgrounds to the game, enhancing the storyline and gameplay.
EA’s website now features comprehensive profiles for each companion, complete with short biographies and a list of their abilities. A standout for me is Neve Gallus, an ice mage who doubles as a private detective with ties to the Shadow Dragons—definitely an intriguing mix of magic and mystery. Then there's Emmrich Volkarin, a necromancer who comes with a bonus: a skeletal assistant named Manfred. Sadly, details about Manfred remain scarce for now.
Fans eager to delve deeper into these characters' stories can tune in to Dragon Age: Vows & Vengeance, an eight-part podcast series debuting this week. Each episode will spotlight one of the companions and feature their voice actors, offering a more immersive introduction.
In addition to the companion reveals, BioWare shared some fun insights over the weekend. The social media team posted results from an internal survey about the developers' favorite class to play, shared on X (formerly Twitter). The rogue class, particularly the veil ranger, came out on top, followed by mage and warrior (with the champion being the least popular). It appears that players are leaning towards the newer archetypes, which isn’t too surprising given their fresh appeal. Also released were details about Rook’s warrior combat style, covering basic maneuvers and specific abilities.
For those looking to experience Dragon Age: The Veilguard without any spoilers, a word of caution: the blog posts and videos contain some minor plot details. If you want to keep the story completely fresh, it might be wise to steer clear until the game’s release on October 31.
With all this new information, it's clear that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is shaping up to be a compelling addition to the beloved franchise, driven by a diverse cast of companions that players will surely come to love.
