Citadel of Madness Finally Translated to English After 11 Years

An Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion mod called Citadel of Madness has finally received an English translation 11 years after its original release. This Oblivion mod was previously only available in Russian, but infinitely more fans will now have access to this fresh content.

Released in 2006, the fourth installment of the Elder Scrolls series was one of the most popular games of the 2000s, with its community creating many excellent Oblivion mods over the years. While some of these mods improve the base game with only minor tweaks, better textures, or subtle gameplay changes, some add completely new landmasses or quests. Among the latter was Citadel of Madness, originally uploaded to TESAII in 2013 by a Russian modder named Lariatius.

Sparking joy in the game's community, a translator named Vorians has finally translated Citadel of Madness into English. This mod adds a new area above the Shivering Isles, which includes a few flying islands with hundreds of NPCs. To play Citadel of Madness, gamers need to have a copy of Oblivion with the Shivering Isles expansion. Then, they will need to download the appropriate files from Nexus Mods. After installing the mod, they will need to reach at least Level 18 before traveling to a watchtower in the northern part of New Sheoth to start the new storyline.

Guide to Playing the Citadel of Madness Mod for Oblivion

*Install The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion along with the Shivering Isles expansion.

*Download Citadel of Madness from Nexus Mods.

*Install the mod and access its content by reaching the Shivering Isles area and achieving a minimum character level of 18.

According to the modders, Citadel of Madness contains 38 quests, including both main and side stories, and has over 25 hours of total content. Some other additions include new bosses, alchemical ingredients, armor, weapons, settlements, dungeons, a new faction called The Knights of the Order, and over 3,000 unique lines of dialogue.

Citadel of Madness may not be as big as some total conversion mods for Oblivion such as the popular Nehrim: At Fate's Edge, which transforms the game into an entirely new experience from top to bottom. Nevertheless, it's a massive mod with heaps of interesting and novel content to explore, so players who loved the quirky atmosphere of the Shivering Isles may want to give it a try.

While Citadel of Madness is an older project that has finally become accessible to English speakers, modders are still working on other amazing Elder Scrolls mods, such as the ambitious Skyblivion, which intends to remake Oblivion on Skyrim's engine. A few months ago, the developers of Skyblivion showcased the state of the mod's development, taking players through a trek in the woods to explore some Ayleid Ruins. Unfortunately, it's not clear when this mod will be completed.
