When Dandadan first burst onto the manga scene, readers were immediately pulled in by its insane energy, offbeat humor, and genre-bending mix of sci-fi, horror, and teen romance. Created by Yukinobu Tatsu (a former assistant to Chainsaw Man’s Tatsuki Fujimoto), Dandadan has built a cult following that’s only gotten louder with the release of its anime adaptation by Science SARU in 2025!
Now, Grand Summoners — the long-running anime-style pixel RPG — has teamed up with Dandadan in one of the most unexpected yet highly requested collaborations to date. For fans, this crossover was a “when,” not “if.” Both properties share a flair for over-the-top action, irreverent humor, and, most importantly, character. The moment the teaser dropped, the community lit up with hype!
On September 1st, the official Grand Summoners X account posted a surprise teaser: Momo and Okarun — the beloved duo from Dandadan — have been transformed into retro-styled pixel sprites and are entering the fray in Grand Summoners. The short teaser clip gave fans a first look at their chibi combat animations and teased their ultimate abilities, instantly sparking speculation on their in-game roles.
The collaboration officially begins on September 5th (Friday), right after maintenance. The event will be live until October 4th, giving players nearly a month to collect new characters, tackle event quests, and grab exclusive rewards.
But that’s not all. Alongside the teaser trailer, Grand Summoners also announced the release of a full TV commercial (TVCM) promoting the collab. Here’s where it gets interesting — the ad features narration by Shion Wakayama, the official voice actress for Momo in the Dandadan anime. Her narration sets the tone as the ad teases a new threat:
“Who’s their next enemy? …An interdimensional alien?”
The commercial is scheduled to air during Dandadan's regular TV broadcast blocks, including TBS, MBS, and BS Nippon TV. That strategic move is a clear message: this isn’t a throwaway crossover. It’s a full-on celebration of Dandadan’s anime debut — and the partnership has weight behind it.
Shion Wakayama’s involvement is a big deal for fans of both anime and gaming. Known for her emotionally grounded yet energetic voice work, Wakayama has made waves in recent years with standout roles across multiple hit series. Her presence in the TVCM not only adds authenticity but also strengthens the emotional bridge between Dandadan and Grand Summoners. This isn’t just a character skin — it’s Momo, voiced and all.
The Dandadan collab is being rolled out in two phases, each introducing two playable characters. Here’s what we know, directly from official sources:
Phase 1 (Starting Sept. 5):
Momo (Water Element, All-Rounder): Boosts equipment CT speed and reduces incoming damage. Features “Super Critical” effects for high burst windows.
Okarun (Tree Element, Rush Attacker): Focuses on physical DPS and high-speed rotations. Includes the “Super Dash” skill mechanic and a flashy Over Arts finisher.
Phase 2 (Starting Sept. 16):
Aira (Fire Element, Support/Sub Attacker): Provides strong party buffs and ultimate gauge charging. Great synergy pick for burst teams.
Jiji (Dark Element, Defense Breaker): Comes with defense-ignore abilities and team-wide flinch resistance — a strong pick for PvE boss fights.
Each character is lovingly rendered in Grand Summoners' signature sprite art, with attack animations and ultimate abilities inspired by scenes from the anime. The artwork and special effects were produced in collaboration with Science SARU, ensuring the crossover remains visually faithful to Dandadan’s unique style.
You can acquire the collab characters through the limited-time “Dandadan Summon Banner”, available throughout the event window. But here’s the kicker: the devs are making this one extremely F2P-friendly.
Over 100 free summon tickets are obtainable through login bonuses, event missions, and quest milestones.
A special event questline titled “Urban Legend Emergency: Kisagari Station Invasion” has been added, featuring custom story beats with Momo and the crew.
Completing event content also unlocks exclusive equipment, including gear pulled straight from the manga and anime.
Players can also purchase a Special Illustration Pack, which includes alternate character art, extra EXP bonuses, and collectible visuals drawn by the anime studio.
This means even casual players stand a solid chance of grabbing at least one or two of the limited characters — without needing to spend premium currency.
Not all anime game collabs are created equal. Some are superficial, timed cash grabs. This isn’t one of them. The Dandadan x Grand Summoners crossover shows a level of care and coordination that goes beyond basic marketing. From the faithful pixel renditions of the characters to the involvement of official voice talent and animation studio partners, it’s clear this is a passion project for both teams involved.
For Dandadan fans, this is a rare opportunity to see their favorite characters in a game setting that celebrates style and energy. For Grand Summoners players, it’s a breath of fresh content with meaningful rewards and strategic gameplay options. Whether you’re a longtime GS veteran or just hopping in for the collab, this event is worth checking out. Get ready to summon — and welcome Momo, Okarun, and the gang to another wild ride.
