NetEase’s highly anticipated open-world martial arts RPG, Where Winds Meet, is entering its final phase of testing. As the July 25 launch date for the final beta draws near, the developers have revealed major updates to gameplay, expanded platform support, and new insights into the game's official release timeline!
The final beta test for Where Winds Meet is officially scheduled to start on July 25, 2025 (PDT), and it will run for seven full days. For the first time, the beta will be accessible to both PC (via Steam) and PlayStation 5 players, indicating the game's broader push toward a multi-platform global release.
Players interested in participating can currently register through the official website. Access is limited, and those who apply earlier will have a higher chance of receiving an invitation.
One of the most exciting additions in the final beta is the debut of Kaifeng City— a fully realized urban center packed with missions, shops, NPCs, and hidden side quests. This ancient city is not just a backdrop but a living, breathing hub designed to showcase the game’s dynamic world-building and immersive interactions.
Other gameplay enhancements include:
- Refined combat mechanics: Enhanced Wuxia-inspired movement, air dashes, wall-running, and weapon-based combos.
- Dynamic weather systems: Rain, wind, fog, and sandstorms that impact stealth, visibility, and combat performance.
- Expanded narrative choices: Players can align with different factions, change the fate of major characters, and influence the political balance of the world.
Compared to earlier betas, this build represents a near-complete version of the game, though it's still subject to polishing and performance tuning. Players can expect:
- More than 25 hours of story content, covering the first three chapters of the main narrative arc.
- 10+ fully explorable regions, including mountain ranges, coastal towns, forests, and temples.
- Full character customization system, with new options for facial structure, outfits, and martial arts styles.
Where Winds Meet is a historical fantasy RPG set during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period of ancient China. Players take on the role of a mysterious swordsman navigating a world of political upheaval, spiritual forces, and legendary martial arts clans. The gameplay combines traditional open-world exploration with fast-paced martial arts combat and narrative-driven role-playing choices.
Key gameplay pillars include:
- Freeform exploration: No fixed quest order; players can wander and discover organically.
- Real-time combat: Blend of acrobatics, swordplay, and inner force skills in seamless fights.
- Moral alignment system: Your actions and decisions directly affect how NPCs and factions respond to you.
While NetEase has not confirmed an exact global release date, sources close to the development team indicate a targeted launch window of Q4 2025. The final beta will serve as the last major testing milestone before the development team moves toward polishing and localization for international markets.
Given the scale and performance feedback expected from this beta, it is likely that a final launch announcement will be made shortly after the test concludes in early August 2025.
Registration for the final beta is now open through the game’s official website. Interested players must create a NetEase account and fill out a short survey. Selected participants will be notified via email or account notification before July 24, 2025.
Those who participate in the beta will be able to carry over certain progress and receive exclusive in-game cosmetics when the full game launches.
For fans eagerly awaiting a new generation of Chinese RPGs, Where Winds Meet represents a significant leap forward. Its emphasis on narrative depth, cinematic presentation, and cultural authenticity has already earned it comparisons to titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Black Myth: Wukong.
The final beta is not just a stress test — it’s a showcase of what the game has become after nearly five years of development. Player feedback from this round will directly shape the final tuning of systems and features ahead of its full release.
Where Winds Meet is more than a game — it’s a statement from the Chinese development community to the global gaming audience. With its final beta launching July 25 on PC and PS5, players around the world will finally get a deeper look into a game that blends cultural richness with next-gen gameplay design.
