Fans of Honkai: Star Rail might be facing disappointing news regarding the character Screwllum, according to recent leaks. As a member of the Genius Society and the ruler of his own planet, Screwllum has been introduced to players primarily as an NPC, often in connection with Herta, another member of the Genius Society.
Screwllum plays a pivotal role in the Simulated Universe, being one of its creators and overseeing the Divergent Universe. Players can challenge him in the Radiant Feldspar map located in Penacony.
Currently, developer HoYoverse has not confirmed Screwllum as a playable character in the immediate future. However, several leaks have suggested that he may become playable down the line.
Unfortunately, some leaks indicate that Screwllum's release could be postponed indefinitely, or he may not be released at all. This information originates from a leaker known as Seele Leaks, who shared the news in a post labeled as "Questionable" on Reddit. According to this leak, the rumored character Mr. Reca will debut in Version 3.0 as a 4-star character, raising concerns about the possibility of Screwllum’s release being canceled or delayed.
For players eagerly anticipating the chance to play as Screwllum in this turn-based RPG, the rumors of his potential cancellation are particularly disappointing. Since the game's launch, Screwllum has been hinted at as an NPC and has become more prominent through various story quests tied to Herta Space Station.
His intriguing personality and demeanor have captivated many fans, especially considering his reputation as one of the galaxy’s top hackers, second only to Silver Wolf in Honkai: Star Rail. Despite the occasional leaks suggesting a playable version, none have materialized, leaving fans waiting.
Recent leaks, however, contradict earlier ones, creating uncertainty about Screwllum's future in the game. If he remains absent from upcoming updates, players saving their Stellar Jade for future pulls may have to reconsider their plans and shift their focus to new character releases like Rappa in Version 2.6 or the rumored 5-star variant of Tingyun in Version 2.7. As the game evolves, the gameplay meta changes rapidly, and holding out for an unconfirmed character like Screwllum could hinder players, especially in challenging endgame content requiring diverse team compositions.
Despite the unsettling leak, the notion that Screwllum may never become playable seems far-fetched. If his release is delayed, it is likely to allow for further refinement of his abilities. Completely omitting him would squander the character's potential and existing design.
Screwllum's character model is already complete and integrated into the game, albeit as an NPC. His unique design sets him apart from typical NPCs, making him a prime candidate for a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail.
Significant characters like Screwllum often become playable over time. The gradual introduction of a character helps build player interest, enhancing their engagement during gameplay and combat scenarios. Unlike Rappa, who was released shortly after his debut, some characters, such as Firefly, have been showcased early on only to be introduced as playable later, following their development in the story.
While Screwllum has played an intriguing role in various quests and events, there may still be opportunities for him to shine as an NPC in upcoming updates. Although the timing and method of his potential release remain uncertain, if he continues to be featured prominently in the story, it would be logical for HoYoverse to capitalize on the increased player interest and eventually offer him as a playable character.
While the leaker has a track record of reliability, it's important to approach their claims with caution. The rumors regarding Screwllum’s postponed or canceled release may not be entirely accurate and could change as HoYoverse continues to develop future updates and character introductions.
While the timeline for Screwllum's arrival remains unclear, it is highly probable that he will eventually be introduced as a playable character. His significance in the Honkai: Star Rail universe makes it hard to believe that HoYoverse would forgo the opportunity to include him in the game.
