Rockstar Games has officially announced that the beloved classic Red Dead Redemption is set to arrive on PC, more than 14 years after its initial launch on consoles. Originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, Red Dead Redemption was later expanded with the standalone addition, Undead Nightmare, in the same year.

For years, Red Dead Redemption was confined to the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms until backward compatibility allowed it to be played on the latest Xbox consoles. In 2023, the game made its way to the Nintendo Switch and PS4. While many fans hoped for a full remaster or remake, Rockstar chose to simply port the classic open-world game to these newer systems.
Following the release of the Switch and PS4 versions, players clamored for Rockstar to bring Red Dead Redemption to PC, allowing gamers who enjoyed Red Dead Redemption 2 to experience the full narrative. Rockstar has now answered that demand with the announcement of the PC port.
The PC version of Red Dead Redemption is set to launch on October 29, alongside the Undead Nightmare expansion. Developed in partnership with Double Eleven, the port will support 4K resolution at up to 144Hz, along with Ultrawide and Super Ultrawide monitor compatibility, HDR10, keyboard and mouse functionality, and advanced upscaling options like NVIDIA DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0. The port will also feature NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation and adjustable settings for draw distances and shadow quality, promising a comprehensive gaming experience. However, fans will have to wait until the official release on October 29 to see how it performs in practice.

Historically, Rockstar Games has prioritized console releases over PC, leading to long waits for PC gamers eager for their versions of the studio’s titles. While a 14-year wait feels excessive, the studio did release Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC just over a year after its console debut in 2018.
Red Dead Redemption 2 serves as a prequel to the original game, setting the stage for the events of Red Dead Redemption, which picks up years later as John Marston hunts down the remaining members of the Van der Linde gang. The game unfolds with the signature blend of comedy, action, emotional depth, and unexpected twists that Rockstar is known for.

PC gamers should mark their calendars for October 29 for the arrival of Red Dead Redemption. Meanwhile, they can also look forward to Rockstar's next big release. Although Grand Theft Auto VI is unlikely to launch on PC simultaneously, let's hope fans won’t have to wait nearly as long to play it.
