With the arrival of The Haunting Season 6, players can now explore the final set of content updates for Modern Warfare 3 integrated with Warzone. This season introduces a thrilling array of spooky features to both titles, including the Zombie Royale mode, where you can combat the undead using new weapons like the Kastov LSW and the DTIR 30-06. Additionally, players can experience an exciting new mode called Purgatory.
Purgatory is an open-world game mode that grants players a significant amount of freedom in their gameplay. In this variant of Rebirth Island known as Hellspawn, you can complete objectives, grind for camo, and survive the Torment Levels while facing off against other players and mercenaries. If you're venturing into Purgatory for the first time, these tips will enhance your gameplay experience.
In Purgatory, players enjoy immediate access to their Custom Loadouts, setting this mode apart from others in Warzone. Choosing the right weapons is crucial for success, especially in a high-paced environment. Since Purgatory is set on a version of Rebirth Island, fast-handling weapons like Submachine Guns and Assault Rifles are particularly effective.
Both the rapid-firing BAL-27 and the powerful STG44 are excellent Assault Rifle options. Other versatile choices include the BP50 and MCW. For Submachine Guns, consider using the FJX Horus or the Static-HV, alongside others like the Striker. While these weapons are favored, long-range options like the KAR 98K and DTIR 30-06 can still be valuable in the right scenarios.
One of Purgatory's unique features is the Torment Level mechanic, which adds an extra layer of challenge. This level increases as you eliminate other Operators, Mercenaries, and Zombies. You can track your Torment Level by observing the white skulls located beneath the minimap, with a maximum of five levels available before your progress resets upon death. Advancing your Torment Level allows you to gain additional XP from enemy eliminations, making it a fantastic way to rank up quickly in Warzone. However, this boost comes with increased risks.
As your Torment Level rises, you'll be marked in red, attracting the attention of other players. High-level Torment players become prime targets, and upon reaching Torment Level 5, you may even find yourself under attack from an Attack Helicopter. Despite these dangers, achieving higher Torment Levels rewards you with hidden weapon blueprints, such as the Gore Cannon, which you can earn by surviving at Level 5 for five minutes—a challenging but rewarding feat.
While vehicles are available in Purgatory, many players may prefer a more stylish approach to navigating the map. This is where the mode's unique Jump Pads and Portals come into play, allowing for swift rotations to surprise enemies or evade danger and protect your Torment Level from resetting. Jump Pads can be found throughout the map and are designed to launch players into the air quickly, making them ideal for crossing distances between Operators.
Portals, though less common, provide even greater travel capabilities. These red orb-like structures, marked on the map, transport players high into the sky, offering a strategic advantage for quick escapes or repositioning. Plus, using 15 Portals during the Purgatory event earns players the Supportive Gesture Weapon Charm, a delightful cosmetic addition.
Although players begin Purgatory with access to their Custom Loadouts, some may overlook the benefits of looting. The mode offers exclusive loot that can enhance your gameplay significantly. Among the highlights are powerful, pro-inspired weapon blueprints, particularly beneficial for those still leveling their guns in Warzone.
Crucially, players should seek out Supply Crates, as they contain various Mutations that can offer unique advantages. Carrying over from the Mutation Resurgence, these abilities grant players superpowers, such as invisibility or zombie disguise, as well as increased jump height. You can find Mutations in Supply Crates and Scare Packages, with the latter sometimes providing a direct boost to Torment Level 5.
For those seeking instant kills, Terriballs are a unique addition to Purgatory that can be found scattered around the island or within Scare Packages. Characterized by their red appearance, these items may seem innocuous but can deliver instant eliminations. You can launch a Terriball by shooting it or running into it, and any Mercenary or player it hits will be instantly eliminated.
Although Terriballs can be tricky to deploy in combat, they serve as an entertaining element within Purgatory. Two challenges are associated with their use: eliminate 50 Mercenaries with a Terriball to unlock the Devil’s Favorite Calling Card, and secure three Operator kills or assists for the Still Beating Camo. Both challenges yield valuable cosmetic rewards, making the effort worthwhile.
Purgatory is a fast-paced, two-hour mode filled with action, but players can find refuge without leaving the match. Throughout the Hellspawn map, players will discover various Safe Zones that disable combat in their vicinity. These zones switch players to a third-person view and reset their Torment Level, allowing for a breather after intense encounters.
Safe Zones serve not only as a protective haven but also as social hubs where players can loot Supply Crates without interference and commend fellow Operators. While this may seem minor, commending others grants small XP rewards, and you can unlock the Favored One Calling Card for the Purgatory Island Event. This feature offers yet another way to enhance your collection of cosmetic rewards.
