Naughty Dog has recently uncovered an Easter egg in The Last of Us Part 1 that has flown under the radar since the game's launch. This delightful discovery allows players to modify the lighting on the main menu using a specific button combination. The announcement caught many fans by surprise and highlights one of the intriguing new features added to the remake of the original game.
Despite its linear storytelling, The Last of Us offers a rich and immersive experience, filled with numerous extras for players to discover. These include unique character interactions, alternate outfits, and even various visual filters. When The Last of Us Part 1 launched in 2022, it significantly expanded upon the original title, introducing several fresh elements and Easter eggs that had never been seen before.
Naughty Dog showcased one of these hidden features on their official Twitter account, posting a video that demonstrates how players can alter the lighting on the game’s home screen through a series of button presses. By pressing the D-pad and the Triangle button on the PS5, or the "E" key on the PC version, players can change the light streaming through the window on the main menu to a brighter white shade by following a specific sequence.
Normally, the lighting changes automatically when players select the Left Behind DLC in The Last of Us Part 1. However, by executing the button sequence shared by Naughty Dog, players can manually adjust the lighting. Fans reacted with surprise to this revelation, sharing their disbelief in the comments that they had never stumbled upon this feature, likely due to the precise button combination required.
This Easter egg was revealed during Naughty Dog's annual celebration of "The Last of Us Day" on September 26, commemorating the in-universe date when the cordyceps fungal outbreak initiated the apocalypse. While the occasion was festive, some fans expressed disappointment over the lack of substantial new content for the series, particularly concerning the now-canceled The Last of Us multiplayer game that the developer had previously promised.
Despite this, Naughty Dog has turned its focus to its other prominent franchise, releasing a remastered collection of the Uncharted series for PlayStation 5. The company is also reportedly working on a new and mysterious intellectual property. As speculation continues about a potential third installment in The Last of Us series, excitement mounts alongside the upcoming second season of its critically acclaimed HBO adaptation.
