Fans of Death Stranding have much to look forward to on September 29, as Kojima Productions has announced an expanded presentation for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS). Initially slated for an hour, the event will now extend to a much longer format.
The sequel to Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic series was first revealed with an extended trailer during The Game Awards in December 2022. Since then, Kojima Productions has confirmed that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach aims for a 2025 release. The game will feature prominently at TGS 2024, culminating in a dedicated presentation on September 29.
The plans for the TGS presentation have been enhanced, as announced in a late September tweet from Kojima Productions. Instead of the original hour-long event, the Death Stranding 2 showcase will now run for 90 minutes. To accommodate this extension, the presentation time has been moved earlier from 10:30 AM to 10:00 AM JST. Hideo Kojima will be joined by several key figures associated with the series, including Daichi Miura, Kenjiro Tsuda, and Nicolas Winding Refn. The entire event will be live-streamed on YouTube.
While Kojima Productions did not specify the reasons for this time extension, it remains unclear how the additional 30 minutes will be utilized. Given that any new footage is likely prepared in advance, this adjustment may lead to more extensive guest segments. Regardless, this presentation is anticipated to be the final update on Death Stranding 2's development for the year.
Death Stranding 2 isn't the only title Sony plans to showcase at TGS 2024. The event will also highlight Astro Bot, which will have a booth where attendees can play the game and interact with a large themed gacha machine. Additionally, Monster Hunter Wilds will be available for play at the PlayStation booth.
Although Death Stranding 2 does not yet have a specific release date, it is unlikely to launch before the second quarter of 2025 at the earliest. This estimate comes from Sony's recent statement indicating that sequels to major franchises will not be released within the current fiscal year, ending in March. Based on the release history of the original game and Sony's trend of targeting holiday season launches, Death Stranding 2 is likely to debut towards the end of 2025.
